Something I found? This could have been left on Tressel's Desk

Dear Jim,

I love the job you do with the Ohio State Football Program. You understand
tradition, the importance of the Michigan rivalry, of Big Ten Championships,
and of developing our young people into fine adult citizens. I appreciate
the job you have done with recruiting talent from around the country as
well. Without these things we would not be a consistent top ten program. I
also loved reading, "The Winner's Manual," an outstanding guide to success.
I know you are a busy man, but if you could do one last thing for me I would
appreciate it a great deal, and it could even be used as an addendum to your
now famous book. When pursuing a career, do not forget the first step. It
usually has the numbers 101 behind it. In your case it would be Football
101. You have achieved great success despite missing this class which is
usually a prerequisite for other students of the game who wish to move on to
higher level classes. I'm sure a remedial course is offered at a large
public institution the likes of Ohio State. If you would do this one thing
or hire a tutor, in many parts of the country it is called a "coordinator,"
the likelihood of continued success would be greatly enhanced. Please be
reminded that I pay you a handsome salary and that I often have to justify
that salary to the many alumni and boosters who support us.

Sincerely,

Dr. Gee

The Routine

Today I went to the OSU v. Navy like usual with my dad. The usual routine that my dad and I do on a buckeye saturday is quite a fabulous thing when this time of the year comes around. The routine has been the same since I was in elementary school and nothing has changed. Here is a run down of the typical Martin week.

Mon-Wed- Dad calls and talks about how the traffic is going to be horrible and states that more than likely we wont get a parking spot. Note to self: We have never got in bad traffic and we have always found a parking spot for the last 20 years. Maybe its because we get there 8 hours earlier than everyone else.

Thursday- Dad calls after he listens to Bucks Line on 610 WTVN with all of this information about the game. However, when he talks to my brother and I and tells us the info it was something that we knew from last year but we act like it was the biggest development that happened in years for his satisfaction.

Friday- Dad calls and says that the countdown is on and reconfirms that we are meeting at the butt crack of dawn. He then asks how long it takes to get to the Bob Evans at the top of 23 and 270 in Columbus. He has been driving that route for about 30 years so I think that he knows. But if you know my dad his two favorite things are to be on time and to know the weather every minute of the day. So yes, we are meeting at 8:15 at Bob Evans.

Saturday- Do the routine as stated from Monday-Friday.
8:15- 9:15- Eat Breakfast at the Fawcett Center
9:15-11:15- Beers at Riverwatch/Hineygate
11;15- Drag dad from the live bands to get him to the game so we can see the band ente
12:00- kickoff
First Half- Still hear dad say Zwick is still better than Troy Smith
Halftime- Meet under the band ramp with all of my old stadium buddies to talk about how we can never open up our play book and how much I have lost my hair.

2nd Half until we walk to the car- Watch OSU pull of a tight game because we cant blow anyone out and walk back because OSU fans are never satisfied

Sit in the AC when we get back in the car and it feels like cancun. During November its the heater. Either way it feels like I am in Cancun

Drop Dad back off at Bob Evans....where we say good bye and look forward to the same routine the next week.

Certains things are priceless.....

Why???

This will be short and sweet because the pain of me writing this can only get worse as I type more letters. As this time of the year rolls around I feel myself getting so excited because the weather starts to change with the color of the leaves. It is football time and man does it just make me feel better everyday that I wake up. However, and there always is a "However"

As I watch the browns tonight I feel numb watching Josh Cribbs return another kick return get called back for a holding. Or a Brady Quinn touchdown get dropped by Edwards. Or watching a defense that you have to research every player because you think to yourself "Who is that, where did they come from, and I hope they pan out." As always I think "Well there are a lot of nice draft picks that will be in the top 10 next year." So I leave with this. Give me Eric Berry as the number 2 pick next year. I wouldnt mind having a defensive back that I know and enjoy watching. If we could only pair him with Frank Minnifield.

Go Browns!

The Drive

Play Video Now While Reading:

When you get to the Sidenote Part of the Blog this is the song that
always plays in my head when the car is passing over the bridge.
I don't know why!
You know I am weird and that is part of the reason why
I am your friend. Onto the Blog:

The month of August has had a lot of promise and I am glad that it has since we have to enter the workforce in about 20 days. Sorry for the reminder my teaching buddies. As I drove to NY the other weekend to visit my brother it allowed me to think about a lot of things that I chose to blog. I chose to blog to discuss an array of items and because one of my friends criticized my blog numbers the past month. No names will be included but lets just say he doesn't like coffee in the morning, enough said. I packed up the Jetta with Natalie and the little one in the backseat. I was not happy about commanding the ship alone upfront and unfortunately I felt like Driving Ms.Daisy. The two in the back slept 75% of the time but this allowed me to contemplate many items like not visiting the lake this summer to how fun our trips to NY and Chicago were going to be in the remaining weeks of summer. Not only that but OSU football starts in one month.

After thinking about all of these fun items for about 10 hours we came upon the the GW Bridge. For you that have been to NY its a remarkable site and for you that are historians its remarkable to think about the excitement that so many experience coming to NY for a new life like my brother did.

Side Note: Have you ever seen the part in a movie(usually the intro) where its a helicopter view of a jeep going into a city because a guy is starting his life over based on a plot that his wife left him and he lost his job etc. Thats what I feel like every time I across the GW. However, my wife is in the car with poop pants in the back.

Back to the Blog: So it gets to the point have you ever watched the film Family Man? If you haven't its about a man that goes back and he sees his life as it would be if he made different decisions along the way. It got me thinking what would have happened if I would have stayed with one of my crazy GF's or would have decided not to go to OSU and went and played bball somewhere. How life would be so different just because of a different decision here and there. Scary if you think about it, especially since you have no idea about anything you want to do in life at that age.

So let's play some fiction here. Reply back with another option that you could have chose in your life and give me the ending result.

If it don't make money it dont make cents...

One Time at Band Camp

This weekend I spent two days in Miami, Ohio with our basketball squad not knowing what to expect. When you take a group of 14-17 year olds away from the their comfort zones of the high school life, it's like a box of chocolates as Gump would say. For you three clowns that normally read my blogs you all know what it is like to be a coach or part of a team that unites or crumbles because of the differentiating brain cells in the teenage head. Since the common theme of our blogs has been the good old days I have decided to drift off into another area that used to make my high school summers priceless. Summerball!

One thing that I have learned the last 3 years that I have been a head coach is the unbelievable items that I used to take for granted when I was a kid and especially in sports. From football camps in numerous cities in Ohio, to individual camps that you attended where your parents watched you for numerous hours working on a free throw, where did those funds come from and who was involved in getting you to that camp that you looked forward to so much.

This year I did a little different thing at my kids camp. I decided to make sure that our elementary kids gave thanks. I dedicated 20 minutes on the final day of our kids camp so they could sit down and make a "thank you" card to the person that allowed them to attend the event. You had to see the parents and grandparents faces when their little ones delivered those cards and said thanks.

In regards to my camp this weekend in Miami, Ohio I can honestly say that I have never had so much fun at a team camp in my life. As a player and a coach the only time that remotely came as close was watching the time when Brent got slugged in the arm over and over by one of our coaches while playing euchre:) I will say that our coaching staff and our parents didn't receive cards from our players instead we heard non-stop laughter and overheard stories from our players to our parents that seemed could not come fast enough out of their mouths. As I drove out of the parking lot I thought to myself. Did I ever take a second and tell my parents and coaches thanks? Nope I probably didnt, but I bet that when I returned with my stories and laughs no thanks was needed! But maybe a late one wouldn't hurt.

The Real World

Mr.Brent Wise recently wrote a blog about the luxury of the teacher profession and our 2 1/2 months off away from the world of work. I would like to add to this with "The rest of the story."

From my experience most districts and most people will say that in this day in age teachers are overpaid or need to volunteer to take pay decreases in this economy because we are public servants. Yes,  that was an editorial in the newspaper the other day. My money is on the fact that the writer of that editorial was on his yacht cruising the panhandle of Florida. Go figure.

Here is something to chew on. During the high school day a teacher works with approximately 120-150 students. I will almost guarantee that in the so called "real world," as some of my relatives in business call it, that it is not far fetched that these professionals do not HAVE to talk to their clients everyday.(and reflect to yourself we are talking about teenagers) Then let's get real adventurous. Take those 150 clients and get emails from their parents. You are now dealing with 450 individuals. Tap on mandatory meetings for you to go to every 10 weeks where you need to explain how your progress with your client has been beneficial to them and them only.

Let's chew some more. With this being said, add in your same subject teams, departments, administrators and any extra-curricular groups that you get hustled into because you need be part of the team. Now, if you have a supplemental contract, such as a coaching contract, you can tack on 30 more kids for bball, which leads to 60 more parents and the sticker on you shirt that better say "Satisfaction Guaranteed"

Now after reading this don't think that I do not like my career. I really wouldn't want to change my decision at all. But let's finish with these thoughts. 1) It's the United States these complainers could have picked to be teachers and they chose not to. 2) No matter how well your students do on tests you are not getting a commission check for that one 3) I think we should revise the so called summer vacation ideology to "Mental Health Days."

Maybe we should join the so called "Real World" after writing this article :)

The Pit in the Stomach

After this week of sports I have realized one thing and that is the fact that when one seeks comfort they look to their friends and family when in dire straits. You may think with an opening line like that there is a chance that I lost my house or my job or my lunch from a parasite. However, what I have lost is confidence in, is a Cavaliers championship. During this week I have talked to my brother, my dad, Wise, Morrison,Eiseman, Rob Price, colleagues, students, the wife and even Mr. Cooper the Dog (no not the Hanging with Mr.Cooper I know what you were thinking Morrison). Everyone that I have talked to has the same story about the series with the Magic. I can guarantee you have heard the following words within your conversations: the Browns, Poor Lebron, Choke, and who do we trade for next year. Even writing this is painful but we need a turn of events and I think this blog is going to turn the tides. Let's think about it this way. (#1)- The Cavs are not going to lose 2 out of 3 to the magic at home in the same series. So therefore we are down 2-3. (#2)- It is impossible to play any worse than we did against Orlando in game four. Our other guards cant hit the broadside of a barn, and no way can the Magic and Reefer Smokin Alston hit 17 threes again. Therefore we are tied up 3-3 heading back to Cleveland where we have lost 3 games all year.

So you may ask me why I am so optimistic. Well lets be honest. (#1) Brent told me I had to be for this post so I am reaching for the stars. (#2)- I talked to Mike Brown on the phone and for a motivational speaker for the rest of the series they have brought in Jason Otter!!! And if that didn't get you in the mood. Let this be your answer! Click on The Link..  Inspiration For Us

Come on Cavs!

Two Days Off ????

Have you ever taken a day off or multiple days off and after those days wondered how your time spent was actually considered relaxing. Are those days off non relaxing because there were items that got in your way to make those days actually relaxing? I have had a few days where life felt like a whirlwind and there were joyous times and times where you wondered what in the world was going on. Sometimes I was wishing that I was at Bloomville pool buying a bag of Cheetos for 25 cents and getting kicked out the pool because of hanging on the diving board.

My Tuesday started out with the normal daddy routine of diapers, formula and a ton of playing because the "little one" loves to smile and play with her dad now. Its quite priceless I must say. I can say that I cant wait for my followers on here to experience this. Its better then Wisestock times 1000. (U get the point) After this life took the corkscrew turn. Dad Martin and Madelynn went to meet with the Bank to refinance. That is more painful than a hernia. However, hopefully the outcome is worth it. While little Madelynn sat on the Vice President's of the Banks desk I had two calls come in to make real estate showings and possible contracts for the day. I will spare the details but lets say that this has never happened to me before in 5 years of real estate. To make a long story short Madelynn helped me make two contracts within a 3 hour time span, managed to play in her saucer for 30 minutes straight to help out dad and watched him almost do the Scott Morrison routine. (Next whirlwind, Next paragraph)

While trying to get the now crying girl to sleep I tossed her blanket in the air while watching it come down on a large cup of gatorade. Yes, then this volcanic explosion of grape decided to head towards my IMAC. No damage done but lets just say this involved a blow dryer, paper towels, crying baby and almost a crying dad. So finally, when Natalie got off work I could only muster three words "Please Come Home"

Postponement of Wisestock 09

There are words in life that many civilizations fear and in our current day this is the dreaded swine flu. However, the biggest fear that comes to my mind are the developments that have occured after this deadly pandemic. Due to the spreading of this deadly outbreak of the H1N1 Virus the management team of Wisestock 09 has decided to postpone the annual celebration. After the press conference on Sunday evening Director of Operations "Uncle Steve" stated, "It is a sad day when it comes to this but precautions are needed. After several pauses and tears of sadness Uncle Steve again stated, "No potato guns, no wiffle ball games, no grilled food that tastes like lighter fluid, no judy, no judy!"

Under the guidance of family members Uncle Steve stepped down from the podium and Director of Wiffle Ball Operations and Sports Activities, Scott Morrison commented,
"Planning for this event has taken months, even years. However, we will move forward. This will allow us as an organization to buy more time to find more effective wiffle balls. He concluded his 4 hour spectacle by saying,  "There is a root cause to this problem and the games will go on...oh yes they will go on."

As time goes on until the end of this school year there will be many items to look forward to. There may not be a three day event of happiness, joy and laughter on the weekend of June 5th, however, the summer and the cabin did not see the last of us. O no it has not.

In the mean time I will blame this situation on one person and one person only The head coach of the Chicago Bulls. "Vinny Del Negro" I dont know why, we just need something or someone to blame for this.

To infinity and beyond,

Thought of the Day:Lottery

Have you ever thought about what you would do with the millions of dollars if you won the lottery?

I was sitting at my desk today teaching my future boss and started to think what I would do with millions of dollars. The amazing thing that came about was the fact that most of the items that I thought of  seemed to focus on buying things or doing things for other people. I can only imagine the look on peoples' faces when I escorted them in to a dealership and said pick out any vehicle that you want, or making the phone call to your parents telling them about their summer home in Mexico you bought for them. (never mind that: the drug cartels and swine flu are on the prawl)

But seriously, what do people do with this money that they win.

Here is my list of the more fun ideas that I could come up with:

1) Buy a subdivision so all of your friends can live there for free . There is a mandatory go-cart race every Sunday afternoon like Nascar. This takes place in a perfect oval track in the center of the homes where you can only use your family as a pit crew.

2) I would buy the cast of 24 so I could make them work around the clock so we could watch the show non-stop.

3) Three words: Ultimate Potato Gun

The Introduction of the Virgin Blogger

"Life comes at you fast"

As I sit here in my living room watching the little one "Madelynn" playing on the floor with a toy at the age of two months I sometimes get jealous of what is going in that little brain of hers. How simplistic life is for her. No mortgage, career, and the numerous little payments in life that drives one nuts, such as an oil change. But as i sit back and think about all of the things that happen in life, hectic or not, you start to realize how great life is. The mortgage payment puts a roof over the head of the people that mean the most to me. My wife Natalie gets to raise her little daughter here, my dog Cooper gets to lay on the vents and get cool and I.....well I get to sit back and live the story.

Because of the events that have happened in my life, I have learned to become a positive person. Even the guy that helped me get the idea for this blogging escapade has helped with this. I used to be as pessimistic as a person can get. But with my family and the friends that I have how can one be negative about anything.

So as a summary for my first blogging experience I will leave you with this.
- There is a method to all of the madness that happens in our daily life. The problem for me lies in the fact that I don't understand that method until later on. I guess life is made up of 10% of what happens to you and 90% of how you respond to it.

Enjoy the Blog...I look forward to the ride.
